Oil painting on canvas indistinctly signed M. Carre. Reputed 10 Downing St. item.

The 17th century Michael Carre painting was hanging at 10 Downing St. when Count Johann Casper von Bothmer zu Schwegerhoff died in 1732. It then returned to Schwegerhoff, was moved to the Droste Museum in Meersburg, Germany in 1948. It was brought to Oregon, USA by Baroness Helene von Bothmer in 1990 and remained in her collection until her death February 23rd 1995. In 1998 the painting was brought to Victoria, B.C., Canada by Baron George von Bothmer zu Schwegerhoff and his wife Baroness Julie von Bothmer.
