18th century mahogany cased striking balloon clock (repeater), signed Benj'n Taylor, London.
Maker: Benjamin Taylor of London, England.
Date made: Between 1773 – 1800
Special Features:
· Over-wind protection
· Pull repeat for chime (previous hour)
· Chime shut-off lever. When in off position the minute hand becomes reversible.

These features were only found in the high quality clocks of the time.

General:
Original in all detail. Mahogany veneer case nesting on brass feet and with folding brass handles at each side of balloon. Painted dial with roman numerals. The clock was fully checked and serviced June, 2001 and minor touching up of the dial was done.

Height: 28 inches.
Depth: 7 inches but at base 9½ inches.
Width: 15 inches at balloon, 7¾ inches at waist, 17¼ inches at base and 19¼ inches between feet.

Historical:
1)Benjamin Taylor: Apprentice to Thomas Bingley (freeman) on approximately 9/1/1765 until 1/11/1773 when he became a freeman. He had business premises at Ball Alley, Lombard St. 1793~1800 and 45 Lombard St. 1798~1800 (Source: Brittens Dictionary).

2) The clock has been in the ownership of one family since approximately 1870.
