LOT 3
Inlaid walnut double pedestal desk, commode, & stool. Reputed 10 Downing St. item.
By 1710 all of Queen Anne’s children had died, it was clear that the elector descendent of Princess Elizabeth, sister of King Charles I of England would be her successor. Family history states that famous documents were prepared on this desk and that drafts for the right of succession for Queen Anne of England, naming and creating King George of Hanover George I of England. These documents validated the right of succession of George, King of Hanover as heir presumptive to the British throne.

This office suite was in 10 Downing Street until Count Bothmer's death in 1732. All furnishings were returned to Schwegerhoff, Germany. Count Bothmer's remains were laid to rest at Palace Bothmer. Three years later Sir Robert Walpole moved into 10 Downing street and became the first official Prime Minister of England thus forever making the Count Bothmer’s townhouse the residence of all future Prime ministers of England.

After their return to Schwegerhoff, they were moved to the Droste Museum in Meersburg, Germany in 1948. They were brought to Oregon, USA by Baroness Helene von Bothmer in 1990, where they remained in her collection until her death February 23rd 1995. In 1998 they were brought to Victoria, B.C., Canada by Baron George von Bothmer zu Schwegerhoff and his wife Baroness Julie von Bothmer.
